Supply Chain’s Role in Driving Growth

January 20, 2014 By: Senior Management | Topics: Supply Chain

For over 55 years Sedlak has been a valued partner in helping design and build supply chains that drive the growth and success of businesses across the country.

At Sedlak Management Consultants we believe that a well-planned and well executed supply chain should be a key asset in driving the overall growth and success of a company. Cost and efficiency are important, but providing services and enabling sales by being in stock and able to get product into customer’s hands when and where they want it is a key part of supporting sales growth. Quite frankly, it is a more significant driver of corporate success than are cost and efficiency. Efficient fulfillment just doesn’t matter if you have lost the sale because you were out of stock or unable to offer a valued service or timely delivery.

When supply chain leaders are working closely with their colleagues on the go-to-market side of the business, they are better able to build a supply chain that has the flexibility and capacity to support evolving operating models, on-going cost pressures and more complex customer service promises.  Years ago, this played out as significant cost pressure drove the importance of global sourcing and the need to flow product through more complex and lengthy import supply chains. Today the channels to the consumer are blurring and driving the need for Omni-Channel Fulfillment (OCF) and Distributed Order Management (DOM).  How these solutions get designed and executed depends on the operating model with which the business wants to go to market.

When the leadership of demand and supply sides of a business work closely together at the early stages of defining the customer experience, then great advantage can be created for the business and for the customer. This puts the leadership of the supply chain in the position to make smart investments in facilities, processes, partners and technologies which will adapt their current supply chain to better deliver on tomorrow’s promises to the customer. Those promises are more often including greater speed (i.e. same-day delivery), broader assortments (i.e. endless-aisle) and competitive cost. Many companies are now leveraging modes of transportation (i.e. couriers, rail, air, etc.) that were less important to them years ago, but that they find absolutely critical today.

For over 55 years Sedlak has been a valued partner in helping manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors, and retailers design and build supply chains that deliver on their customer promises and drive the growth and success of their business.
