Rickenbacker International Airport Leads Freight Innovation in Air Cargo

December 7, 2017 Topics: Announcements, Media, News

Sedlak is proud to see Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK) and the Columbus Regional Airport Authority featured as an air cargo innovator in this month's issue of Inbound Logistics. In October, Sedlak partnered with CSCMP to host a tour of the Rickenbacker Air Cargo Terminal which featured a flight landing by Emirates. This strategic Midwest location offers efficiency and speed and helps shippers connect international and regional logistics to streamline their supply chains.

According to Inbound Logistics, the industry is rapidly taking notice of Rickenbacker's dedication rapidly and efficiently moving air cargo from plane to final destination. Shippers landing cargo at LCK can service most of the United States within two days thanks to easy access to rail lines and truck transport.

“The airline to warehouse transfer is normally eight to 24 hours,” said one logistics provider in the article. “In LCK, it happens in less than three hours. We have freight arriving and out to distribution centers in less than nine hours.”

Rickenbacker's Air Cargo Terminal No. 5 also offers a unique operating model in that freight forwarders do not move their own cargo or have dedicated (walled or gated) space inside the warehouse. The warehouse operator handles everything, and the lack of dividers enhances freedom and efficiency of cargo movement.

“It's an unusual setup,” David Whitaker, CCO for the Columbus Regional Airport Authority said in the article, “But they all work well together in there.”
