Sedlak associate: "When I finished my systems integration assignment, the client threw a party for me. Several months later, when I returned to see how things were going, the DC director greeted me with open arms—literally."

Workforce Optimization

Tyson Foods

Tyson Foods, with eighty-three plants in twenty states and seven countries, produces a variety of premium chicken, beef, pork, and Cornish game hen products. After manufacturing, Tyson products are shipped to Tyson distribution centers or a similar outside facility for storage until requested delivery. RedPrairie asked us to help Tyson Foods achieve a 20% productivity improvement in two plants, Montgomery City, Missouri, and Ottawa, Illinois.

The combined team began by simultaneously gathering data, verifying the accuracy of the data, incorporating best practice methodology for all job functions in the distribution operation, and then developing standards and loading them into RedPrairie’s DLx® software.

When we were finished, Tyson expected to reach its goal of 20% productivity improvement within twelve weeks of the go-live date in each facility.

Kellogg Company

Kellogg Company needed to increase distribution efficiency and contain operating costs. The first step was to determine the most cost-effective and flexible storage and rack strategy for a new super DC on the West Coast within which they needed to leverage a large investment in a suite of supply chain software and technologies.

We developed a strategy for the company's supply chain information technology, recommending (1) ways to use the warehouse management system to manage the operations more efficiently and (2) implementing a workforce optimization module. Included in our design was an evaluation of the efficacy of voice recognition and pick-to-light technology for picking.

Our recommended strategy for better use of information technology had the potential for a $15 million savings.
